Abner Doubleday, Boy Baseball Pioneer, by Montrew Dunham/Illustrated by Cathy Morrison, Patria Press, Inc.

As a boy, Abner loved nothing more than playing ball with his brother and friends. When not on the playing field, Abner’s adventures led him to the recovery of a stolen trunk in the woods, a hitched ride aboard a rickety stagecoach AND an historic meeting with French Revolutionary War hero General Lafayette. Lively illustrations draw the young reader into Abner’s world where baseball was king, and good sportsmanship ruled.

I love playing ball with my friends so it was really fun to read about Abner doing the same thing more than 100 years ago. But Abner didn’t only play baseball—he had lots of cool adventures, like when he solved the mystery of the stolen trunk!

Abner is like me. He likes to play and goes on an adventure. I like the part where Abner finds the trunk. It would be neat to have an adventure like Abner. I would read this book again. It is a great story. :-)
